I am not to blame for the premature Round Robin....

Sometimes, posts or comments might not seem like we are on teh same page as with he rest of the blogger world. this was the case last week on the 19th (Sat) July when NLL posted the following....

Hello Round Robins,  First, let me make this disclaimer.  The topic for this week was suggested by NLM (not me).  And of course, he had an "item" which would fit perfectly into this Challenge.

So what happens is that this post is going out a week early.... follow???

NLM tends to collect things.  And when he can't find things to collect, he'll go and place bids at the local Storage Units when they auction off the "stuff" that nobody's claimed. NLM is hoping to find that one magical hidden treasure that will bring him fame and fortune.  In one such case, he bid on, and won, a huge storage unit full of old construction stuff: windows, lumber, nails, ancient computers, siding, etc.  He is still working through all this junk.  But he came across this one item in a box that was mixed in with all that other construction and contractor stuff.

If I had run across it, I would have trashed it immediately upon envisioning its past history. However, being the true NLM, the lightbulb went off and said "Perfect for Round Robin!".

So from the mind of NLM, here is this week's Round Robin Challenge - An Item You'd Like to sell on E-Bay, but You're Too Embarrassed.".  (trust me, it's going into the trash by the time this post hits the airwaves.)

This particular instance showed a pair of black leather thong, zip up thingies... that I found during a "unit storage auction" - someone actually left them! I am sure by accident!. But what happened was that no one else was participating... - so I was left hanging with this particular post for no sane reason. Anyway, that is my disclaimer. The post is on the 19th, if anyone wants to go back and take a gander at the racy underwear. Not my fault.... NLM

The Round Robin Photo Challenge

This Weeks Round Robin Photo Challenge is WOOD.  Our assignment is to take a picture of anything wooden.

NLM and I are pretty much opposite when it comes to everything.  But the one thing we both love, is that natural wood look.

We have friends who make a living out of looking at a piece of wood and creating  beautiful pieces of art in the form of furniture.  Their favorite wood to work with is the Juniper.  It twists and turns and has all sorts of colors when finished.

Here's a couple of pieces we are fortunate enough to have had made.

(note the little hikers.... they're all wood, too)

The "claw" is the base of a large table...

And then (below) there is the Nekked Lizard Man (and dog) Throne.  (we don't have this piece, but NLM is hopeful...)

Round Robin - Spring Cleaning

The Round Robin Challenge for today is:
"Spring Cleaning"
I was so totally thrilled when I read the challenge this week.  I had been waiting a very long time to post my most favorite pictures EVER!  I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.  I feel SO much better now that my "Spring Cleaning" has been completed!

Now isn't that the prettiest clean spring you've ever seen.

Round Robin Photo Challenge - VARIETY!

This week's Round Robin Photo Challenge is a Variety Show!

Our challenge is to photograph something as viewed as an assortment...something that comes in different varieties. For example, it could be a bunch of flowers, or nuts, or crayons, or birds. The sky's the limit!

So here goes:  Now you might just think these are just magazine covers, which they are. However, for the last 7 years I have produced an annual publication for a small radio station located near Indian Lake in Ohio.  Out of those 7 years, 6 issues have MY photography on the front cover.

While these are not one photograph of an assortment of items, it is a variety of my own 6 photos used for the front cover of this magazine.  (2006 is actually a photograph of a wall hanging... in case you're wondering.)

Round Robin Challenge- My Favorite Dust Catcher

This week's Round Robin Challenge was to find that one perfect scene, photograph it, and name it... and she gave us complete freedom with this project.

So here's one of my most favorite scenes.  While visiting my parents in Ohio one year, my dad took me to a flea market. For $5.00 I purchased this wall shadow box.  There was absolutely nothing fancy about it at all, but I thought it was a good price.  It made the trip from Ohio to Colorado in one piece and sat in the corner of our bedroom for months, doing what it does best.... catch dust. 

Then one day I decided to put it to use.  And that is what I did.  NLM had lots of little trinkets from his many adventures in Europe, and I had collectibles that he'd given me and dear friends had passed along to me.  It was so much fun, fitting everything into it's own special little space.  I know you can't make it all out (I had to shoot it at an angle because it's hung in a hallway), but look close, and you'll make out stuff from Paris, France, Germany, The Great Buckeye State, a military airman, items that describe who I am and what I do, and best of all, sweet mementos from my NLM. 

While I hate to dust, this is my most Favorite Dust Catcher...

Round Robin - First Signs of Spring

The Round Robin Photo Challenge this week is to show the first signs of Spring in our neighborhood.  Like most, Spring is my favorite time of the year. And although I know we're still in for some good snowstorms before the summer heat, I hope you enjoy how Spring arrives at the Nekked Lizards'...

The storms build over the mountains, and we always get lightshows as they roll over to the plains.

The moisture from the recent snows and afternoon showers always form little fog pockets which contrast with the evergreens and the red rocks.  This is the view from our back patio.

Our finches migrate in the winter, stop by briefly in the spring before they've all turned their bright yellow.  But it is sweet to see them at the feeder in March and April.

Round Robin Photo Challenge- Shoes!

The Round Robin Photo Challenge is SHOES. 

Someone once said that shoes are the point of the exclamation you make to the world.  Well, I'm not quite sure what point I make, but here are my shoes.

My all-time favorites:  Easy Spirit Leather "Outdoor" Shoes.  I have had these for nearly 10 years.  Still holding up strong, and I don't know what I would do without them!

When a quick trip outside in the mud is necessary to gather wood, I wear the ugliest shoes ever made... they belong to NLM.  I don't even know what to call them.  But the neighbor's dog got ahold of one and chewed a chunk out of them.  NLM then chewed me out, for leaving them outside.

Next are my, "they must go into a ziploc bag in between the 2 times I've ever worn them" shoes. (they're crushed velvet) These have been to one USAF Mess Dress at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and one corporate Christmas party. Nice ankles, huh?

Then there are the "combat boots that I much prefer residing in the closet, rather than being overseas" foot apparel.  There were too many times, over the years, these boots were not at home with me.

Round Robin Photo Challenge

The Nekked Lizards' Round Robin Photo Challenge.

The Challenge:  "EAT YOUR VEGGIES".  We are to photograph anything veggie.

Raising any type of vegetable where we live is a challenge.  Hot baking sun and sandy red dirt is not a good combination for growing mouthwatering vegetables.  And whatever you do grow, you have to keep guard 24/7 to keep the bunnies, deer, and bears from ravishing your crop. So our good veggies come from the Farmer's Market during the Summer.  In the winter, however, you have a much harder time finding the good green stuff.  But there IS  something we have year-round.

The Nekked Lizards' overabundant veggie plethora:  Prickly Pear Cactus.

There are actually many different ways to eat a Prickly Pear Cactus.  But you have to heed some advise:  Always wear thick gloves (duh!). And be aware the spines shoot through the thickest soled boots and Polaris tires, and if you loose your balance and tumble over, you WILL land on top of them.  Don't fret about digging them up if they've overgrown a path you frequently walk.  They will be back within a couple of months with a vengeance that rivals the Giants during Superbowl. And ALWAYS beware of the 1/16 inch size Glochids!  After attaching themselves to your shoes, socks and other article of clothing, they make their way into your home, detach onto the floor, then lay in wait for just the right moment to attack, leaving you writhing in pain and hopping to the bathroom to find the tweezers...again.

If you're not into self-inflicted pain, go to the Desert Store.  There you can find the rewards of someone else's agony.  (But there is different kind of price to pay..$)
